The Journey
Six chapters, one stone. Told by a house that has lived on this road for five generations.
01
A billion years, give or take
Every natural diamond began as carbon under the weight of the world, brought up by ancient volcanoes and found by patience. Mines are closing faster than new ones are found. What reaches the surface now is the end of a very long story.

02
Where the first judgement is made
Rough diamond looks like wet glass, and reading it is the trade's oldest skill. One piece of rough holds a dozen possible stones; the sorter decides which lives are worth living. Our family has made that judgement for five generations.
03
Surat, where nine in ten diamonds are made
Most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished in one Indian city. This is the floor our house comes from. A cutter chooses between weight and light with every facet, and the stone carries his choice forever.
04
The report, then the eye
Every finished stone is graded by an independent laboratory, never by us. The report travels with the stone. Then comes the reading the paper cannot do: daylight, other stones beside it, the question of whether it is beautiful. Most fail.
05
Where the stone becomes a piece
The chosen stone crosses the world to a quiet room in Vancouver. Setting is slow work done close: the mount made for this stone, not a stone forced into a mount. The same eye that chose it checks it last.
06
Where the story was always going
A journey of a billion years ends on a morning like any other, on a hand that will stop noticing the ring and never stop knowing it is there. This is the part we work for.
The longer version of this story is written down.
